Located in Southern Iceland, the home aims to reimagine the housing vernicular of Iceland. The home draws largely from the grass-roof dwellings that are iconic in Iceland. These inconspicuous homes allow the beautiful and raw nature of the natural landscape to stand out. In mimicking the local architecture of Iceland, the home is embeded in the ground with one side facing a view. The grass-top roof protects the home from the blistering winds and other extreme weather that is not uncommon at the site. Moreover, by embedding the home into the ground, there is more insulation from the cold weather. Furthermore, the home includes many custom details such as a sunken bed for optimal space and built-in shelving units.
